But my group is mostly for people writing for the CBA (Christian Bookseller Association) I am a Christian but am not writing for the CBA for the same reasons I chose not to go to religious schools--too many rules that have nothing to do with my faith.

Anyway, nice to meet you Kelly. This will be my first pitch at Myrtle Beach. Looking forward to it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17823544256558622214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6312598758657459224.post-73817989341434936332010-05-17T23:47:08.732-07:002010-05-17T23:47:08.732-07:00Okay, your genre description in the above comment ...Okay, your genre description in the above comment made me laugh. Thanks for an interesting post! I'm calling mine a YA fantasy, but an agent could erase those lines in the sand and call it something else if that made it easier for them to sell.Myrna Fosterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13534358757278599925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6312598758657459224.post-13402101206764078272010-05-17T21:45:20.931-07:002010-05-17T21:45:20.931-07:00StephD- I like your use of the word capture. It took me a long time to figure out that I am a mythic urban fantasy dystopian romance writer. As for the difference between YA and adult, perhaps the protagonist's sophistication may have something to do with it too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6312598758657459224.post-78571148746289298262010-05-17T16:14:06.160-07:002010-05-17T16:14:06.160-07:00I've been trying to work this one out too. Wha...I've been trying to work this one out too. What I keep hearing is that the distinction between YA and Adult is arbitrary, but the most important factor is usually the age of the protag. Even that's not always watertight.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Market it as what you think it is, and let the agent/publisher work it out.Peter Cooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04425304915182352610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6312598758657459224.post-16591491538156717212010-05-17T09:55:15.920-07:002010-05-17T09:55:15.920-07:00I totally sympathize as I thought my book was YA, ...I totally sympathize as I thought my book was YA, but have been told it reads more MG.Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00685341739870191402noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6312598758657459224.post-50977445717688289582010-05-17T08:27:12.539-07:002010-05-17T08:27:12.539-07:00Yeah. However, some of them thought it sounded too young (for the age of the protagonist), more like a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old, and several others thought it sounded too old, more like an adult voice.

Sigh.Krista Van Dolzerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08830193414560232842noreply@blogger.com
